The History of the Norman Conquest of England was the magnum opus of Edward Augustus Freeman (1832-92), Regius Professor of Modern History at the University of Oxford. This standard work was revised several times by the author during the course of publication and frequently appears as set of mixed editions as here. Handsome vellum bindings in fine condition. The copy was owned by F. E. Smith, later 1st Earl of Birkenhead (1872-1930), notable barrister and Conservative politician, holding high office.
