The early history of Paulding County, OH, including the communities of Paulding, Antwerp, Payne, Latty, Cecil, Dague and Oakwood, are recalled through a mixture of colorful tales and factual data in this this NEW 13 Page Booklet reprinted from the 1892 Centennial edition of Henry Howe's Historical Collections of Ohio and other sources. The spiral-bound booklet is printed one-sided, with the fine print enlarged for easier reading. A sheet of clear vinyl has been added to protect the front cover. Among the many and diverse topics in the booklet are: Ditching the Black Swamp Tract; John Paulding, his Capture of Major Andre, and execution of the spy; the making of hoops and staves; beehive charcoal furnaces; a chat with an old settler; destruction of the old reservoirs by vandals; the timber business; and the thoughts on the approach of a new century (1900, that is). GENEALOGY BUFFS will find a list of 1888 county officers and businesses. A 1933 look at the history of newspapers in the county, an brief article on the Ohio Indian tribes, a map showing the 88 Ohio counties and a map of 1805 Ohio are also included.

Upper corners are slightly bumped. Front cover has some staining by side edge. Address labels from a prior owner are on the inside of front cover and at bottom of first page. The first part of the book is an index to The Northwestern Ohio History and Biographical portion of the 1882 Historical Hand Atlas of Northwestern Ohio and Paulding County. Portions of that book are reprinted here also. Book is in very good condition. Small 4to, .6 lb.; Small 4to 9" - 11" tall.
