Dr. Trusler). Plain leather spine, old marbled boards with curiously a faint family tree of Royalty with crowns printed on them. Boards rubbed and stained, corners worn with board just showing at tips, 2 short closed tears neatly repaired, no loss, the last 3 pages of text have a tiny nick to fore-edge, all 8 catalogue pages have 2 tiny nicks to fore-edges, not affecting text, first free endpaper has neat repair to lower margin, a few tiny pale marks to margins, very occasional pale foxing, old ink names to first free endpaper, inner paper hinges cracked, binding sound, no loose pages, floral bookplate on first pastedown of Irene Gosse, author of "A Florilege: Chosen From the Old Herbals". A very good copy. Corners worn with some loss, board edges bumped. Some light browning and occasional spotting to text, occasional ink marginalia, partial pencilled index to ffep. With Trusler's coat of arms engraved to reverse of title, and twenty-six woodcuts by John Bewick showing joints, poultry, and fish to text, and another six later engravings pasted in onto blank leaves (these with slight off setting). The first edition was published in 1788. Bitting, page 466; Maclean, page 142; Osborne II, page 743; Oxford, pages 116-117 "gives curious information as to the habits of the time. For example, the custom of 'a gentleman and a lady sitting alternately round the table' had only been lately introduced.
