Soft cover. Condition: Good. This is the First Dell printing, July, 1961, of this title, which was originally published in 1959 by Harper & Brothers. The cover reflects the movie tie in with 20th Century Fox and the actors Paul Newman, Piper Laurie and Jackie Gleason. The author inscribed this volume to poet William Heyen on the half-title page following the copyright page. This volume was purchased directly from Mr. Heyen. While the covers show creases, wrinkles and color loss to image on the front cover by Clark Hulings, and an inked E int the middle of the word THE of the tittle, the spine remains without a crease. The edges are unevenly colored green, and the book is slightly off square. However, all pages remain firmly attached to the text block. The paper is a bit toned, and there is a fold/tear to the opening page of the book at the gutter, this page also has a penciled "x" and a bit of a water line at the upper right edge, but does not appear to be repeated on subsequent pages. There also appears to be some light damage to the margin of the bottom edges of last fifty pages of the book. Inscribed by Author(s).
