A WWI-era promotional booklet for the YMCA, highlighting its "YMCA Hut" program that provided temporary structures for the troops abroad for recreation and rest, and to boost morale. Published just before the end of the war in November, 1918. The booklet features a line-drawn illustration on the front by James Montgomery Flagg showing a proud woman in YMCA uniform posting a sign to a wall that reads "This is the HUT the 'Y' Built". Also includes illustrations throughout of troops using the huts to watch films, read news from home, receive job training, play sports, and more. Single vol. (7" by 4.75"), pp. 16, illus., in original self wrps or lacking original wrps. "Do the boys appreciate it? One single cafe hut, costing not over $4,000, served more than 1,100,000 men in one year; and at a hut in Liverpool one woman worker fried 1,236 eggs 'American style' for our boys in ten hours!" (p. 3). Good. Toned with rust staining from staples, a couple short tears. May be lacking original wrps.…
