Five comedies bound together, solid binding, half leather with marbled-paper boards. slight wear to edges and corners.title on spine, name of previous owner on spine bottom (Chodron) who put his stamp on the title pages and wrote a table of contents on the front page; inside…very good, some foxing only on one of the books; All five plays are presented in their entirety as published by T. Dolby. Each has its own title page and black and white engraved frontispiece. The Hypocrite has an engraved frontispice drawn by Corbould; 14,5x9,5 cm.

These plays were very popular, most running into second and sometimes third editions in the first year. The Francklin is an adaption of "Voltaire's "Amelie ou le duc de Foix." The Hoole epilogue by George Colman, the play based upon Metastasio's "Oemofoonte." The Epilogue of "The Choleric Man" is by Garrick. "Tom Jones," based upon Fielding's novel, is the libretto without music. The Gay includes printed music composed and arranged by John Christopher Pepusch. Bickerstaff's play is based upon the "Non-Juror" by Cibber. The seven works bound in one volume. Contemporary calf, maroon morocco label reading ?Plays? and spine numbered ?8.?
