Condition: Fair. 1958. No Edition Remarks. 256 pages. No dust jacket. Blue cloth with silver lettering to spine. Heavy cracked dent to centre of rear board. Pseudonym of Showell Styles. Includes black and white full page map opposite first page of text. Moderate foxing and tanning to pages, pastedowns and free endpapers. More prominent to text block edges. Pen inscription to front pastedown. Prices in pencil to rear endpaper and pastedown. Noticeable cracking and warping to rear pastedown. Binding remains firm with some minor creasing to gutters. Small metal loop added to binding, protruding slightly from gutter and upper edge of spine. Occasional slight brown marks. Boards have minor corner bumping and edgewear with mild tanning and scuffing overall; heavy dent with cracking and rub marks to rear board. Spine has heavier tanning with soft splitting and crushing to ends. Book has a moderate forward lean.

Light tanning to spine and edges with crushing to spine ends. Dent to middle of rear board. Wear marks overall. Small black ink spots to rear. Boards are a little bowed. Book has a slight forward lean.

Top of spine has a punched hole with metal surround (similar to eye for shoelace). Pages have light age browning but otherwise clean and tight. Unfortunately lacking the dustwrapper. Smith & Son; marked as such only by a bookplate on the front pastedown), minor shelfwear, faint foxing and very light soiling to edges of text block, one-time owner's initials plus date & place of purchase in ink along edge of rear pastedown (concealed beneath jacket flap); jacket has tiny bits of paper loss at several spine corners, otherwise quite nice]. A mountain-set murder mystery with a filmmaking angle. The plot involves a movie being shot against the background of Mont Blanc, and features "Sir Abercrombie Lewker, that well-known actor-manager and amateur detective." The was one of the author's seventeen Lewker adventures; most are set in mountainous regions, reflecting the author's self-described lifelong recreation of mountaineering and rock-climbing. (He also wrote numerous book on those topics, usually under the name Showell Styles.).
