A very scarce, first edition copy of this work on steam-engines, written by Thomas Main and Thomas Brown, with illustrations and a folding plate. A first edition, very scarce copy of this work on steam-engines, by Thomas Main and Thomas Brown. Thomas Main was a professor at Portsmouth College and Thomas Brown was an engineer. This book contains many illustrations and diagrams, as well as a folding plate in the front of the book depicting the indicator and dynamometer. The book is bound in cloth with the title from the original paper wraps pasted on the front board. It also contains the original price of the book, 'Four Shillings and Sixpence'. The previous owner's signature is present on the front pastedown: 'John Kennedy's Book, Cullingworth, April 22nd 1864'. Bound in cloth. Externally, smart with bumping to head and tail of spine and extremities. Title from original paper wraps to the front board. Previous owners signature and ink marks to the front pastedown and front free-endpaper. Internally, hinges slightly strained but firm. Internally, binding is generally firmly bound, with slight tenderness to the verso of the front free-endpaper. Small tidemark to right corner of the folding plate. Pages are generally bright and clean. Very Good. book.
