Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. Reprint Edition. Grosset and Dunlap, Publishers, New York. N.D. 1911(?) based on gift inscription on FFFP. Hardcover. Reprint of the 1855 original by Harper. Book is tight, square, but does have occasional marginal notes and paragraph marks in pencil throughout the book; names of two owners on the front endpapers with a gift inscription from 1911. Book Condition: Good +; light wear to head, tail, and tips; light dust soiling to textblock top. No DJ. Red cloth boards and spine with bright black lettering on the spine and front board with black decorations. Internal hinges are sound and not split. 320 pp 12mo. This is the author's first book published as Inez; A Tale of the Alamo. In it a Protestant orphan girl arrives in Texas in time to witness the invasion of Santa Ana's army and the massacre of the Texas defenders at Goliad. Before her death, she converts a Spanish girl, Inez, from Catholicism. Inez is able to warn the Americans at the Alamo of the approach of the Mexican army. At its core, it was a sentimental, moralistic, anti-Catholic love story that was not well received at the time. A clean very presentable copy.
