First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Good. First American Edition (?). 12mo, 264pp., illustrated. A good copy only in the publisher's green textured cloth. Book is modestly but noticeably bent/curved, though its structure remains sound. Corners worn, mild internal foxing, and one leaf (pp. 71/72) partially torn with some loss. A seemingly quite scarce volume aimed at an adolescent audience, which purports to describe the culture of the Chinese people through the prism of their encounters with English-speaking people. We note a number of institutional holdings, but the last auction record we could find was in 1988, and we found no other copies in commerce at present.

First published in 1835, it is republished here in its entirety with two added chapters on the Opium Wars. He wrote 180 books and was a coauthor or editor of 31 more" (Wikipedia). Among his best-known books are his Rollo series. Not in Lust.
