Cloth. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good+. First Edition, First Printing. This is the memoir of Stalin's interpreter, ranging from his birth at the time of the October Revolution to the dissolution of the Soviet Empire and beyond. At Stalin's Side is a masterful blending of personal and public recollections, Berezhkov's panorama of life in the Soviet Union from his own unique perspective. Berezhkov was an important part of Stalin's inner circle, where he found himself at center stage of international diplomacy starting with the Munich Pact. This book is illustrated with photographs of the author with world leaders and an index. There is underscoring on a number of pages; otherwise, this copy is clean and solid. SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR, inscribed on he FFEP. Includes "A Brief Biography" laid in; also three letters from the author are laid in. Signed by Author(s).

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Author signed on the half-title page. "Autographed Copy" label on the dust jacket. The book is "Fine" but exhibits interesting manufacturing error characteristics: The top edges of the first 14 pages are uncut, and the bottom corners from the half-title page to xvi in the preface are incompletely trimmed. So, an interesting story and an example of book production errors in a book released for sale. The front panel of the dust jacket is scratched, and there is a price tag [$34.95] on the rear panel. Softcover. Condition: Near Fine. No Jacket. Second issue, with passages by Mandlenkosi Langa censored on pages 54 and 60. Subtitled "Notes on African Writing," with one section on fiction and one on poetry. This copy is signed by the Nobel Prize-winning author. The poet was supposedly issued with a banning order in October, 1973 and the passages quoting him had to be deleted or the issues pulped: later reports say it was actually Langa's brother Benjamin who had been banned. Handling apparent to rear cover; about near fine in wrappers. A fairly uncommon book in either issue, and quite scarce signed.
