Hardcover. Condition: Good+ and Near Fine. Good and VG+. First Edition. Vintage 2 Volume Hardcover Set. (See photos to come) Both are First Editions. Both are printed by the McClain Printing Co, Parsons, West Virginia, 1st title is: Bloodletting In Appalachia by Howard B. Lee, 216 pages. Very Good, in a Good DJ. Minor shelf/edge… wear to blue cloth boards with mustard titles - corners lightly bumped and worn. Endpapers have some darkening and a blemish from the DJ sticking to the book and then being removed. Moderate shelf/edge wear, rubbing and a few very small chips to original unclipped DJ - now in mylar. (Blemishes on both DJ flaps from being stuck to the inside covers). This volume has the the personal book label of the Author on the FFEP along with the next owners name and address label above it. 2nd title is: My Appalachia; The Sequel To Bloodletting In Appalachia by the same Author, 186 pages. Near Fine, in a VG+ DJ. Maroon cloth boards with gilt spine titles - corners sharp. Just a touch of shelf/edge wear and rubbing to original unclipped DJ - now in mylar. This copy has a Signed gift inscription to the Author's Sister-in-law Agnes on the FFEP and dated June 18, 1972. A classic, insightful, and often praised firsthand account of the violent West Virginia Mine Wars (1910s-1920s), offering a detailed, albeit sometimes pro-miner perspective from a former state Attorney General, covering conflicts like the Battle of Blair Mountain, the role of coal operators, Baldwin-Felts agents, and the plight of workers, serving as essential reading for Appalachian history and labor struggles. A very handsome two volume First Edition hardcover set that are closely associated with the Author. While the first book has the Authors personal library label, only the second book is Signed.LOC SSE-06. Signed.
