Catalogue rétrospectif de l'?uvre d'Ivan Picelj (1924-2011), un peintre, sculpteur, designer et graphiste croate. Étudiant à l'Académie des Beaux-Arts de Zagreb entre 1943 et 1946, il abandonne ses études pour se consacrer à la recherche expérimentale, loin du discours artistique officiel de l'époque. En 1951, il fonde le groupe EXAT 51 (Experimental Atelier 1951) en collaboration avec les architectes Bernardo Bernardi, Zdravko Bregovac, Zvonimir Radi?, Bo?idar Ra?ica, Vjenceslav Richter and Vladimir Zarahovi? et les peintres Vlado Kristl et Aleksandar Srnec. Ce fut le premier groupe d'art abstrait yougoslave, actif au cours de la première moitié des années 1950 dans le climat alors dominant du réalisme socialiste. Le groupe a joué un rôle important pour l'art croate, préconisant la synthèse de tous les arts visuels, une idée inspirée par l'héritage du constructivisme russe et du Bauhaus.En 1959, Picelj débute une collaboration fructueuse avec la Galerie Denise René à Paris, ainsi qu'avec des galeries internationales telles que Howard Wise à New York, Baruch Gallery à Chicago et la Galleria del Cavallino à Venise. Au début des années 1960, il fonde avec d'autres le mouvement Nouvelle Tendance, assumant les tâches de rédacteur en chef du magazine du groupe, BIT, et de concepteur graphique des affiches et des publications liées à leurs activités. Picelj a produit de nombreux livres d'artistes en collaboration avec Richter, Vasarely et Alviani, entre autres. En 1962, il écrit le manifeste d'avant-garde Pour un art actif.Ses ?uvres ont été exposées dans de nombreuses institutions internationales de renom et sont visibles au Musée d'Art Moderne de New York, au Victoria & Albert Museum de Londres, au Centre Georges Pompidou à Paris et au Musée Boymans à Rotterdam. Depuis 2012, le Musée d'Art Contemporain de Zagreb possède sa propre collection de travaux de Picelj, ainsi que les archives et la bibliothèque de l'artiste, d'après un don de Anja Picelj-Kosak. Catalogue vendu avec deux sérigraphies originales de l'artiste. La première, 280 x 200 mm, tirée à 25 exemplaires et datée de 2003, est signée au crayon par l'artiste.
