The Saint Botolph Edition of the works of Alphonse Daudet, limited to one thousand numbered sets and magnificently bound. Octavo, eighteen volumes elegantly bound in full plum levant morocco with red and gilt morocco fleurs-de-lis inlays to the panels and spine, gilt titles and tooling to the spine in five compartments within raised gilt bands, elaborate gilt cornerpieces to the panels, gilt-ruled turn-ins and inner dentelles, cream levant morocco doublures with red and olive gilt inlaid coats of arms, cream watered silk endpapers, illustrated with tissue-guarded captioned photolithographs. One of one thousand numbered copies, this is number 67. Translated into English. Includes Daudet's novels, dramas, and short stories, most notably Fromont and Risler, Jack, The Nabob, Kings in Exile, and Thirty Years in Paris. In near fine condition. A stunning set. An intimate friend of Zola and Flaubert, Daudet was a member of the French naturalist school of fiction. His singular, impressionistic style earned him great fame both in his own country and abroad.
