The Playgoers' Theatre No. VI. Signed presentation from the author to the sculptor Jacob Epstein - 'To Jacob Epstein from Charles McEvoy Oct 27th 1908.' McEvoy wrote for films, he may have jnown Epstein through his brother Ambrose McEvoy, the distinguished painter. Charles Alfred McEvoy (1879-1929) was the brother of the painter, Arthur Ambrose McEvoy (1878-1927). Both were the sons of Charles Ambrose McEvoy (d. 1905), an Engineer, who was an acquaintance of the painter Whistler. Charles was also the father of Patrick McEvoy (1914-1941), a writer ("The Gorse and the Briar") and Christopher McEvoy (1912-1944), an illustrator (same work). Both died fighting the Nazis.
