She was also the first female magistrate in Canada. However, she was not without controversy over her views on race (Chinese immigrants) and population control through sterilization. Lilian Whiting (1847-1942) was an American writer, editor, and advocate for women's suffrage. She was one of the first women to edit a newspaper?editor-in-chief of the Boston Budget in the 1890s.
