Dwiggins in 1946, this is a fourth printing from 1979. Set in Salem, Massachusetts of the clipper ship era. The story of Gerrit, Captain of the Nautilus and son of a retired sea captain, who brings home his beautiful wife from China. The jacket is intact and is not price clipped. Jacket has been protected with a clear, removable cover. 6" X 8-1/2", 320 pages. Illustrations by Dwiggins appear at the beginning of chapters. Very sturdy red cloth covered boards, with the title and author name imprinted on the spine in gold. Cover boards are flat, the corners are not bumped or worn, no edge wear. This is a remainder copy, with a single red ink stamp mark on the bottom edge of the text block. Besides that mark, the edge of the text block is clean. No former ownership marks, no writing on the text pages. Sewn binding is tight and square. This copy is not a library discard. Attached photo is of the copy we have in our inventory.

This is an ex-lib with far less than the usual markings. White sticker with an 'H' on base of un-clipped DJ spine. Glue residue on ffep from card pocket, glue residue on back of DJ flaps from being pasted down, which they are no longer. Outside of the sticker, and one very small closed tear, the DJ is very nice. The text is in lovely condition, clean, tight and bright. Decorations by W.A. Dwiggins.
