Scudellari (priced £14.99 to front flap). Signed by Author to title page at the 2008 Cheltenham Literature Festival. An American Library Associatio…n Notable Book for 1993 and a Book-of-the-Month Club Main Selection. "He fell for an eighteen-year-old girl with one of those deepdown, spooky loves that made him so sad and happy he shot her just to keep the feeling going." A bittersweet triangle of passion, jealousy, murder, and redemption, set in 1920's Harlem. Author's sixth and own favourite amongst her novels, it forms the heart of her loose trilogy of narratives on African-American history, preceded by Beloved (1987), and book-ended by Paradise (1998). Morrison was awarded the 1988 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for her book Sula, the 1993 Nobel Prize in Literature, and the 2012 Presidential Medal of Freedom. "The deep bluesy sadness of this novel wails out of the pages as expressively as a saxophone." -Digby Diehl. signed.

A near fine copy, very clean and tight throughout; virtually unread. In an attractive dust jacket that has the original price of $21.00 at the top of the inside front flap and the "4/92"… code at the bottom of the rear inside flap. The rear panel features a photo of a joyous Maya Angelou. This copy is signed elegantly by Toni Morrison under the half title. A lovely, collectible copy. Jazz is a 1992 historical novel by Pulitzer and Nobel Prize-winning American author Toni Morrison. The majority of the narrative takes place in Harlem during the 1920s; however, as the pasts of the various characters are explored, the narrative extends back to the mid-19th-century American South. The novel forms the second part of Morrison's Dantesque trilogy on African-American history, beginning with Beloved (1987) and ending with Paradise (1998). Jazz was Morrisons most recently published work when she was awarded the 1993 Nobel Prize for Literature. In the novel, "Morrison uses a device which is akin to the way jazz itself is playedThe result is a richly complex, sensuously conveyed image of the events, the characters and moods."[1] The novel is referenced in S1 Ep5 of the NBC procedural show Found. The character of Felice is referred to as "one of Toni Morrison's most dynamic characters" and "curious [and] brilliant." (Wikipedia) First Edition with "First Trade Edition" stated on the copyright page.".
