Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Little, Brow and Company, 1981; Boston. Hard Cover. Book condition: Very Good. Dust jacket condition: Good. Stated "FIRST EDITION", assumed first printing due to the absence of any number line. Hardcover in unclipped dust jacket. 9-7/8" tall, 551 numbered pages includes "Appendix 1: Descendants of Thomas Jefferson", "Appendix 2: Jefferson's Financial Affairs", "Appendix 3: The Hemings Family", "Acknowledgements", List of Symbols and Short Titles Most Frequently Used in Footnotes", "Select Critical Bibliography" and "Index". This book is in very good condition: the exterior is square, very clean though the rear board has adhesive residue from masking tape (more on this in a moment), free of corner bumps and edge dings and with lightly creased but otherwise undamaged spine ends; hinges are strong. Except for an inked name/date/city on the back of the FFEP, the interior is perfectly clean and completely free of writing, stray marks, stains and any sort of paper damage. Not remaindered, ex-library or a Book Club edition. The dust jacket is intact and is clean and free of chips, scratches, scrapes, and fading. However, it has masking tape on its back side--along all edges, on both folds and on the entire spine; this tape has affected the book's rear board and both sets of end pages, but it has had little effect on the jacket (see photos). The jacket is now in a mylar cover. The sixth and final volume in Malone's study of Thomas Jefferson.
