Print From original Oil on Canvas, 56.5 x 75.2 cm. Art; Prints; Lithograph; David Bomberg was one of the leading painters of the vigorous avant-garde, which developed in London before the First World War, and through his teaching as well as his painting continued to be an influential figure until his death in 1957. Having reached the verge of complete abstraction in his Cubo-Futurist works of 1913-14 Bomberg entered a phase of naturalism after the War. 'Jerusalem' was painted after Bomberg's second trip to Palestine in 1925 and is a vivid record of the brittle clarity of the Palestinian light. 8 X 10 inches, Matted, Fine. -.

Mount Scopus is a mountain (elevation: 2710 feet or 826 meters above sea level) in northeast Jerusalem, Israel. Overlooking Jerusalem, Mount Scopus has been strategically important as a base from which to attack the city since antiquity. A Roman Legion camped there in 66 CE. Again in 70 CE Mount Scopus was used as a base to carry out a siege of the city by the 12th, 15th and 5th Legions (the 10th legions position being on the Mount of Olives). The Crusaders used it as a base in 1099.

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles!Sheikh Jarrah (Arabic: , Hebrew: ' ' ) is a predominantly Arab neighborhood in Jerusalem, on the road to Mount Scopus. The quarter was established on the slopes of Mount Scopus and named for the tomb of a Sheikh Jarrah. The tomb, dated to 1201, belongs to Husam al-Din al-Jarrahi, an emir and physician to Saladin ('jarrah' means surgeon in Arabic). In the 12th century, he established a zawiya (literally 'angle, corner', also meaning a small mosque or school) known as the Zawiya Jarrahiyya ('surgery zawiya'). After his death, his tomb was situated within the school, where it was visited by 'Abd al-Ghani al-Nabulusi, a scholar from Damascus, who travelled with a group of friends and followers to Jerusalem in 1690. They were received at the Jarrahiyya School by a group of dignitaries and spiritual leaders, who then accompanied them into the Old City.
