Slim square octavo in olive gree cloth ornately lettered in front cover and spine in gilt and blindstamp on rear cover. 32 pp. Beautiful hand color frontispiece engraving "Luther's Christmas Tree" depicting Martin Luther and two other adults with some children, toys and gifts and a candle-lit Christmas tree in the background. Six additional full page engravings. From the preface: "Dear Children--This little book has been prepared for you as a Christmas gift.". A tight, example, gilt bright, spotting fading to the rear board; scattered foxing to the last ten or so leaves. Small , neat inscription front free endpaper: "Luke/ from Grandma/ Christmas 1862". Very scarce; OCLC reports six copies but locates only two.

Slightly rubbed to extremities. Internally bright and clean, with single worm track to fore-edge margin of last thirty or so pages (not affecting text).
