Shaw (Lady Lugard), British novelist and prominent journalist in the Victorian era, who is also known for having given Nigeria its name - in the late 19th-century she was Colonial Editor for The Times, and spent time in Australia and New Zealand in 1892 - the title page of volume one is flat-signed 'Flora L. Shaw' to top rh corner; Dillon's Life of John Mitchel in two volumes; the majority of Koch's underlinings appear in volume one, which also shows 4 page references in Koch's hand in ink to rear endpaper; b&w frontispiece plate shows a photogravure of Mitchel by Annan V.
