Shaw (Lady Lugard), British novelist and prominent journalist in the Victorian era, who is also known for having given Nigeria its name - in the late 19th-century she was Colonial Editor for The Times, and spent time in Australia and New Zealand in 1892 - the title page of volume one is flat-signed 'Flora L. Shaw' to top rh corner; Dillon's Life of John Mitchel in two volumes; the majority of Koch's underlinings appear in volume one, which also shows 4 page references in Koch's hand in ink to rear endpaper; b&w frontispiece plate shows a photogravure of Mitchel by Annan V. Swan; a unique copy of an already scarce two volume set, with both the Koch and Flora Shaw associations; includes a 32 page Kegan Paul, Trench & Co's catalogue to rear of volume 2; apart from the annotations, the condition of both volumes is Very Good throughout, with some minor toning to edges of pages, and some minor foxing to endpapers and prelims; boards lightly rubbed, with light worn patch to front board vol.1; both vols with shelfwear to boards and corners lightly knocked. no dustwrapper. 655pp (lii). 2 volumes 8vo.
