No Binding. Condition: Good. John Wanamaker (1838-1922) boldly signed this large card with a detailed engraving of Philadelphia's famous Independence Hall. Wanamaker was a successful merchant who opened his first "department store" in Philadelphia in 1875 and is considered to be a marketing pioneer. He was appointed Postmaster General by President Benjamin Harrison in 1889, serving a controversial four-year term that included firing 30,000 postal employees and issuing poorly-made stamps. 3 ½" x 4 ½". Condition: There are four black photo corners attached to the card, mounting remnants on verso, a few marks in the blank margins, otherwise in good condition.
