As issued, in full cloth with the dust jacket. Moisture exposure to the rear board with general waviness to the textblock; contemporary owner name on the front pastedown; the jacket is a trifle edgeworn with evidence of moisture to the rear panel; spine toned; price intact on the rear flap. This copy with a pleasant inscription on the half title: "For Jerry and Henka [?], with the author's love, here on the Cape -- Bob." Beneath the inscription is a wonderful and playful ink sketch of a bewildered man on the beach with a question mark above his head (presumably Jonah) and a whale looking at him from the water. Cloth. Condition: Good+ binding. Very Good dust jacket. First Edition. Octavo. [6], 212 pp. First edition, first printing. Signed and inscribed on the half title. As issued, in full cloth with the dust jacket. The binding has clearly been exposed to moisture with relatively minor mottling to the cloth; this exposure registers on the endpapers, but the contents of the book are fairly clean but for typical age-toning; bookseller's ticket on the rear pastedown; jacket is fairly bright giving one pause as to whether it was married to the book; minor edgewear including some shallow chipping to the spine ends; price intact on the front flap. This copy inscribed by Nathan on the half title: "For Steve and Rosemary, These pages no longer either peaceful, or youthful, BN." A previous bookseller's pencil note suggests this is to Pulitzer Prize-winning poet, Stephen Vincent Benet and his wife. A fairly safe assumption as they traveled in the same circles.
