Contains 18 black and white photographs and 2 color photographs measuring between 3.5" x 3.5" and 5" x 7" with some captions on the verso. Near fine album with some rubbing with fine photographs. An album featuring photographs of dance classes at the Joyce School of Dance in Amesbury, Massachusetts and Eliot, Maine between 1955 and 1962. The front board of the album features stamped titles reading "Joyce School of Dance 1955-56 Photographed by Shaw Studio." The studio was founded in 1950 by Dr. Ed Joyce and has continued as a family fun school Each photograph shows costumes dance classes aged between early elementary school and high school posed in front of a curtain. Girls are seen dressed in traditional ballet outfits as well as themes such as Christmas, baseball dresses, sailors, geishas, and majorettes, among others. The year and occasionally some notes are present on the verso of the photo such as mentioned photographers "D. Peterson Studio" and "Kent Cunningham." One photo from 1962 includes the caption, "at new studio, after old one was destroyed by fire Christmas Eve 1961. The paint store below and the studio were both completely burned out." A modest but interesting collection of dance photography from a 1950s studio.
