Cloth. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. First American Edition. 8vo, black cloth with gold elttering on spine, Mylar-protected lettered dust jacket (unclipped), map frontispiece, x, [xi-xiv] + 624 pages. Sir Godfrey Rolles Driver, CBE, FBA (1892 - 1975), known as G. R. Driver (son of the distinguished Oxford Hebraist S. R. Driver), was an English Orientalist noted for his studies of Semitic languages and Assyriology. Basil Blackwell published their British edition in 1965. F. F. Bruce has a nice obituary in The Witness 105, No. 1255 (July. 1975): 266-267, which is searchable on the Web. Essentially, Driver took a minority position on the Dead Sea Scrolls. His analysis appears to have been overtaken by later scholarship, though GRD's erudition is such that this study still has important insights. SUPERIOR COPY without notes, remainder or library markings.
