This is the first edition of the collected numbers of Calvin Colton's letters written with his "Junius" pseudonymn of and contains Tracts No. I - VIII; each tract paged separately at the top and about 16 pages each, but book is also continuously paged at bottom. These tracts explore Whig philosophy in relation to the political climate of the day: slavery, abolition, Texas annexation, public lands, tariffs, etc. Each tract about 16 pages and cover various topics: The Test, The Currency, The Tariff, Life of Henry clay, Political Abolition, Democracy, Labor and Captial, The Public Lands, etc. Colton began his career as a Presbyterian pastor in New York in the 1820's and became an accomplished writer, first writing on religious topics, but later on wrote a guide for immigrants, Great Lakes travel and Indians, politics, history and is still noted for his biographical works on Henry Clay. The original publisher's covers are salmon and printed on rather thin & fragile paper. Corners of cover chipped with some loss of text on rear cover and last two pages are chipped at lower corner with minor loss of text.
