232 engravings by Barry Moser (illustrator). Limited Edition, one of 500 copies. The Viking Studio edition of the beautifully designed and illustrated Bible originally printed by his Pennyroyal Caxton Press. In addition to Moser's 232 striking illustrations, he meticulously designed the typography and layout of each page of text. It was conceived as a reading Bible, and presents Frederick Scrivner's 1873 edition without the interruption of verse numbering. This copy is inscribed and signed by Moser to noted bookseller Justin Schiller with an inscription which reads, "For my dear friend, my Sanballat, Justin Schiller / with affection and thanks--". Now the Biblical character Sanballat is the saboteur of dreams (he tried to sabotage Nehemiah's dream of rebuilding Jerusalem), but don't worry, Moser isn't suggesting that Schiller was trying to thwart this Bible project, No, he just means that Schiller quite literally IS his Sanballat--Schiller having been the model for the illustration of Sanballat within the book of Nehemiah. Fine in a fine dust jacket. Bound in coarse ecru cloth over boards with gilt-stamped spine and upper board, integral silk ribbon bookmark. No significant wear to book or jacket. Cloth over boards. Quarto. [xiv], 994, [10] pages.

Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Folio. (64)pp. Dineâs riveting expressionistic woodcuts depict objects and characters in Revelation, such as a skull, a cloud, the Beast, the serpent, and a two-page spread of angelâs wings. The text is set in Garamond, with the voices of God and the angels distinguished by type size. To ensure that the pages would lie flat, Andrew Hoyem himself sewed the signatures concertina-style over a flexible core of plastic and nylon fiber. The binding is quarter-inch laminated oak boards with a lightning-bolt device by Dine, backed in white alum-tawed pigskin. One of the major modern artistâs books, Dine draws on a long tradition of illustrated Apocalypses, from Dürer to the present. A bright, crisp copy showing none of the spine toning to which this book is prone. Prospectus laid in. (Arion Bibliography 10). One of 150 copies, signed by Jim Dine and by the printer, Andrew Hoyem.
