The two volumes folio, 20 pp, and folio, 18 pp. Both in the same neat hand and in uniform original bindings of green boards, with green cloth spines and white decoratively-cut paper labels on front covers, each carrying a description of the contents addressed to 'Königin Adelheid von Großbritannien'. The first account book (1844…-1845) has part of the second leaf (pp.2-3) torn away; and the second (1847-1848) is lacking the fourth leaf (pp.9-10). The second has a summary (3 pp, folio, on bifolium) loosely inserted, addressed to 'Königliche Majestät', and dated 'Meiningen, den 25 Juni [June] 1848'. The second account book also has, tipped in to the front pastedown, a signed autograph reference from 'E. Ballinger | Housekeeper to her late Majesty Queen Adelaide', addressed from '40 Colehill Street, Eaton Square' and undated, for 'Hannah Feesey', who 'lived has [sic] Housemaid in the establishment of Her late Majesty Queen Adelaide upwards of 4 years': 'I found her a clean industrious good servant, and a respectable well conducted young woman'. Expenses include 'Bauwesen und Meublement im Fürstenhaus zu Liebenstein'. The two volumes contain a total of eleven pages of 'Pensionem', with the named recipients including Löwenstern, Wagner, Uttenhoven, Mauris, Panzerbieter, Zierlein. A scarce and unusual item: personal accounts for leading members of the Royal Family rarely if ever appear on the market.

Food was provided for half a million of London's poor for the occa…sion. .DKing Edward VII and Queen Alexandra's coronation took place on this day in 1902. The thrones made specially for the occasion were commissioned from a French firm, in a striking departure from British .In 1902, the Prince of Wales was Prince George, and his wife, the Princess of Wales, was Mary of Teck. They held these titles because their father, King Edward VII, was on the throne, with George being his heir apparent and Mary his wife. Oliver Paque was the pseudonym for William Henry Pike (1846-1908), a British artist who was a regular illustrator for the Daily Graphic and The Sketch during the peak of black and white illustration, and who also exhibited at the R.B.A, R.I, R.A, and other galleries. Pike is known for his work in both oil and watercolour, often depicting West Country landscapes, as well as scenes from his travels in Venice and subjects like the Boer War.

Loose as Issued. Condition: Very Good. Unique. 3 Hand painted Illuminated and Calligraphic Costume designs for a Mime play done in Birmingham under the direction of Christopher M Edmunds (see BBC Midlands Light Orchestra and this Opera, other piece in the Birmingham archives) or possibly POSTER designs, believed to have been per…formed for one of the Festival of Britain events in 1951. The paintings done with oil based colours with raised lettering and raised gilt shields, signed and sated within the images, two dated 1950 and one 1951. Each uniform in size and they measure, approx 22 x 6 inches. The vellum they are painted on is fine quality and they have been laid on the thicker card. We know the artist went to the Slade School in London and believed to have been born in 1930, making her 20-21 when these were done. Little is seen or attributed to her in artist records, but the exemplary work done here obviously for a "special" commission for this musical performance of Maurice Baring's 1911 book "Diminutive Dramas". The detail and style of the faces and positioning of the figures are reminiscent of the work of Eric Gill or Sheila Jackson and exquisitely done. High quality illustrative art. (3). Truda E. Lane. Her third marriage was to Sir Robert Houston, a shipping magnate who left her with 5.5 million which she gave generously to many causes. Specifically she supported British aviation. In 1931, she donated £100,000 to Supermarine, allowing them to win the Schneider Trophy that year. In 1932 she offered £200,000 to strengthen the British forces but was refused. In 1933 she financed the Houston-Mount Everest Flight Expedition, in which aircraft flew over Everest for the first time.
