Food was provided for half a million of London's poor for the occasion. .DKing Edward VII and Queen Alexandra's coronation took place on this day in 1902. The thrones made specially for the occasion were commissioned from a French firm, in a striking departure from British .In 1902, the Prince of Wales was Prince George, and his wife, the Princess of Wales, was Mary of Teck. They held these titles because their father, King Edward VII, was on the throne, with George being his heir apparent and Mary his wife. Oliver Paque was the pseudonym for William Henry Pike (1846-1908), a British artist who was a regular illustrator for the Daily Graphic and The Sketch during the peak of black and white illustration, and who also exhibited at the R.B.A, R.I, R.A, and other galleries. Pike is known for his work in both oil and watercolour, often depicting West Country landscapes, as well as scenes from his travels in Venice and subjects like the Boer War.

Unique. 3 Hand painted Illuminated and Calligraphic Costume designs for a Mime play done in Birmingham under the direction of Christopher M Edmunds (see BBC Midlands Light Orchestra and this Opera, other piece in the Birmingham archives) or possibly POSTER designs, believed to have been performed for one of the Festival of Britain events in 1951. The paintings done with oil based colours with raised lettering and raised gilt shields, signed and sated within the images, two dated 1950 and one 1951. Each uniform in size and they measure, approx 22 x 6 inches. The vellum they are painted on is fine quality and they have been laid on the thicker card. We know the artist went to the Slade School in London and believed to have been born in 1930, making her 20-21 when these were done. Little is seen or attributed to her in artist records, but the exemplary work done here obviously for a "special" commission for this musical performance of Maurice Baring's 1911 book "Diminutive Dramas". The detail and style of the faces and positioning of the figures are reminiscent of the work of Eric Gill or Sheila Jackson and exquisitely done. High quality illustrative art. (3). In 1815, Berlin had been liberated from Napoleon for just 2 years, and the Palais am Wilhelmsplatz in Berlin was a key aristocratic residence near the Wilhelmstrasse, which was becoming a hub for government and high society. This area was crucial for military leadership and elite housing near the Brandenburg Gate, often used by Prussian royal families and high-ranking officials during the post-Napoleonic era.Composed just days after Napoleon Bonaparte returned to power in France (March 1815) and Prussia had reason to fear another invasion, this letter offers a glimpse into the private concerns of the Prussian royal family at a moment of major European upheaval. Despite the looming political crisis, the correspondence reflects the everyday workings of aristocratic patronage, property management, and family influence within the Prussian court.Princess Charlotte, Autograph letter signed, March 26, 1815, to Prince Friedrich of Prussia, just 6 days after Napoleon's arrival in Paris for his famed 100 days."Esteemed uncle, A gray eternity has passed since my eyes last gazed upon your gentle countenance, I feel anxious, and I long to see you again. Two matters urge me today to burden you with my lines; firstly, to find out about your health and how my uncle is doing; and secondly, it is a request to you on behalf of Ms. von Kleist, who would so much like to live in some rooms in your unused Palais at the Wilhelmsplatz. Aunt Hu?en has already written to you in this regard, and you didn?t know whether the King would allow it. Now I received a letter from Papa yesterday, who told me that he cannot grant the request as it concerns the Johanniter Palais and is therefore at the disposal of his brother Heinrich; so he leaves it up to you, and as one can see, he will not mind; and is it not true that you are not using the whole large building at all and that you will heed my request, all the more so since it is your aunt Auguste?s wish? I am counting on your generosity and kindness, my one and beloved uncle, and I am waiting for a favorable response; as I am kissing your gracious hands in my mind until it can soon be done in actuality ? your Charlotte".
