Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Apparent First Editions (NAP). The three books for sale here were part of a four book series. I'm offering the first, the third, and the fourth books. The first one is very rare. I saw only one other copy for sale on the Internet. If you are interested in only one or two of the three books, you can contact me and I'll give you a price for each one. The first one is more expensive. It was published in 1851, the third in 1852, and the fourth in 1853. I believe these are the original covers. The covers of all three books are exceptionally clean and in very good condition, not what you would expect of books published so long ago. They each have the same blind-stamped design on their front and rear sides. They each have the same gilt design on their spines. The gilt is actually fairly bright on all three. The first book, Little Kitty Brown and Her Bible Verses, has a tiny bit of loss at the spine ends. The corners and edges don't have any rub-through at all. There's a small crease off the top rear corner. The bottom corner of one page in this book was produced a little bit long and has been folded back into the page. The coloring on all three books is identical. The spines are each browner than the front and rear which has a hint of perhaps a greenish hue. Perhaps most importantly, all three books are solidly bound. A few of the early pages of Kitty Brown and Her City Cousins have a bit of a tiny space just off the top edge. Also, the first two pages of chapter 1 are not bound at the top and bottom binding point. However they are bound at all points in between very solidly. With Kitty Brown Beginning To Think, there is a tiny space just off the top edge (going down only an 1/8th or 1/4 of an inch) with the first two blank end papers. There are no cracks or spaces to be found anywhere else in the book. This book has a little bit of rub-through at its two bottom corners. The edges look very good. The spine ends have just a little bit of rubbing. There are a couple of early pages in Little Kitty Brown and Her Bible Verses that are not bound at the top and bottom binding point but are at the other binding points between these. These pages are solidly bound. The covers of all three books are very solidly bound. By my estimation, the pages in each book are in very good condition, taking into account their age. All three have light to moderate foxing. Two pages in the first book have heavier spotting (or it may be a stain), but even there the ability to read all the letters or words is not affected. There are only very occasional corner creases, quite minor. There is a very small stamped name on the first end paper of all three books, also a penciled inscription above that. There is no other writing to be found anywhere in the three books. There are no attachments of any kinds anywhere. There are a handful of engravings in each book, including a frontispiece with a tissue guard. I didn't see the author's name in the books but they are hers. A propos, 'Her only daughter and eldest child, the writer Elizabeth Stuart Phelps Ward, noted that her creative and talented mother was "torn" by an internal "civil war" between a woman's calling as caretaker of others and as a creative artist and thinker in her own right. "The struggle killed her", reflected Ward, "but she fought till she fell." She died at 37. Little Kitty Brown and Her Bible Verses contains stories about a little girl learning Bible verses, one per day. All twelve chapters have a different bible verse that is exemplified in the story. The author's 'father was a prominent professor of Sacred Literature at Andover Theological Seminary where he is credited with pioneering modern biblical study in America.'.…
