Condition: Fine. - Over 70 words typed on 8-1/4 inch high by 5-7/8 inch wide creamy white paper, with two annotations in pencil by the recipient noting the dates that he received the letter and that on which he received the score mentioned by Reinhart. Addressed to the renowned collector of Hans Christian Andersen material Dr. Richard Klein, the letter is boldly signed by the Swiss poet Hans Reinhart. Folded once for mailing. Near fine. Hans Reinhart (1880-1963) writes to the renowned Hans Christian Andersen collector Dr. Richard Klein in London. He tells Klein that he will be happy to send him a corrected copy of the piano score for his play "Garten des Paradieses". He goes on to inform him that the piano score for "Der Schatten" is to be performed in Basel in the summer. However, it was a private publication and he cannot recall the date it was published. Klein notes in pencil the date he received the letter and the date he received the score. Both of the piano reductions were created by the Austrian pianist/composer Felix Petyrek (1892-1951) and were probably both originally published in 1933.The Swiss poet Hans Reinhart was born in Winterthur. At a very young age he read the fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen and they made a deep impression on him. He later adapted some of Andersen's work into stage plays. "Garten des Paradieses" [The Garden of Paradise] was published in Winterthur in 1909. "Der Schatten" [The Shadow. A Night Piece from Andersen] was published in Montagnola in 1925.
