Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Signed. Hardback. Dust Jacket. 8vo. pp 256. Fiction. First edition, first impression, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper: " Elizabeth and Hacks from Peter, Christmas 1955". The author Bertha Gladys Stern (1890-1973) wrote under the name G. B. Stern. She was known as Gladys as a child, later substituted Bronwen for Bertha, and was called Peter by her friends (but Tynx by Rebecca West). See Wiki etc., Original publisher's red cloth, spine lettered in gilt. With jacket by D. Beytagh. A very good copy, spine faintly cocked, spine ends slightly bumped; in the original dust jacket, a touch soiled, spine sunned, a few short nicks and short closed tears, extremities a little rubbed, colours still very bright and dust jacket unclipped. Family saga from 1926 to 1954 - Gillian, aged 14 at the start belongs to the "failure branch" of a large English family "brilliant in celebrities." Very good.
