Novelty. Condition: VG. Circa 1925. Collection of Coromandel laquer, which greatly influenced the Art Deco movement. Gray boards, gilt title, pastedown floral image on cover. Gutter intact, fraying, yellow paint mark at lower right corner. Three light brown double-string closures. Enclosed in deep blue cloth clamshell box. Includes 50 plates. 15 in color. Title page. Plates are in VG condition. Two page introduction in French by E.A. Seguy. Slightest bit of spotting at exterior of some page edges. Color remains extremely bright.

First edition. Folio (30 x 39.5cm). Half title, title and all 50 leaves of collotype plates, all looses as issued. Sixteen of the plates are in pochoir and the remainder black and white. All housed in the publisher's portfolio of brown boars with gilt cover lettering (flaking away and a laid-down color illustration, all three ribbon ties present and functional. A good copy.Some damage to margins of first and last plate, spine of portfolio with joint cracks and small piece missing. Plate edges browned as usual but a good and complete copy of this Chinese lacquer-work study. Publication on the famous Chinese lacquers, in this case those from the province of Ho-Nan, south of Beijing, called Coromandel, a great example of the ingenuity of Chinese work, which reminds the author of the character of Western tapestries. Of the 16 color plate only Plate #1 has any issues (minor edge chipping).
