Hardcover. Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. Signed. 80 pages. Published in 2000. Artist Book. Collection of photographs that are individually rubber-stamped with words. One of the most beautiful art photography books of our time. The first and only edition. Published in a small and limited print run as a hardcover original only. The First Edition is now scarce. A brilliant production by Eve Sonneman and Lawrence Weiner: Small-size volume format. Hard boards with red titles embossed on the cover and spine and linen cloth overboards, as issued. Photographs by Eve Sonneman and Lawrence Weiner. There is no text. Printed on pristine-white, thick coated stock paper in Italy to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Presents Eve Sonneman's and Lawrence Weiner's "How To Touch What". One of the most moving, witty, and beautiful Conceptual Artist Books ever published. Here is their modus operandi: Sonneman and Weiner take snapshots and portraits in black-and-white and color, pair them, and then give their juxtapositions new meaning by stamping the images with the simplest words and expressions that people use: "Sticks And Stones", "Tits + Asses", "Concrete + Twine", "Sky & Glass", and so on. All of the words are printed on the photographs in a uniform-size, black rubber stamp, like "Confidential" on an envelope or important piece of document. In the process, they make us aware of the relation between images, between image and text, and the fruitful new meanings that these engender. The creative possibilities are endless, and are finally what makes their project so valuable and so much fun at the same time. Sonneman and Weiner have shown only some of the possible "applications" of their simple yet original concept. We can create our own to continue the dialogue between viewer and artist. An absolute "must-have" title for Eve Sonneman and Lawrence Weiner collectors. This copy is very prominently, neatly, and beautifully signed in black ink-pen on the title page (on top of their printed names) by Eve Sonneman and Lawrence Weiner. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. This title is a contemporary art photography classic. As far as we know, this is one of only two such double-signed copies of the Limited Edition still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. The other signed copy is also from us. Please note: Copies available online have serious flaws or are remainder-marked. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A rare signed copy thus. Two of the most brilliant American artist/photographers of our time. A fine copy. ISBN 1576870790. Signed by Author.

His bold, typographic installations, often displayed directly on walls or public spaces, transformed language into a sculptural medium. Weiner s works emphasize ideas over physical form, using simple yet profound statements to explore themes of perception, identity, and communication *** Lawrence Weiners groundbreaking conceptual art has been exhibited in major institutions worldwide. His early retrospectives at the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (1988/89) and Hirshhorn Museum, Washington, D.C. (1990) cemented his influence in the art world. The Whitney Museum of American Art (2007 2008) hosted As Far As The Eye Can See, his first major U.S. retrospective, solidifying his impact on contemporary art. His presence at the Tate Gallery, London (2006) and Museum Ludwig, Cologne (1995) highlighted his European influence, while exhibitions at the Dia Center for the Arts, New York (1991) and Deutsche Guggenheim, Berlin (2000) further reinforced his international reach. [13] leaves & ads. Square 4to, pictorial wrappers, staple-bound. Aachen: 1970. A very nice signed copy of this scarce Lawrence Weiner (1942-2021) "catalogue as exhibition." To the shock and ridicule of attendees to Weiner's exhibition, there was only the catalogue to read through, no paintings, drawings, etc. Weiner has signed the present example on the upper left corner of the inside wrapper. "One of the most controversial exhibitions presented at Gegenverkehr was Lawrence Weiner's An Exhibition in May 1970, as Klaus Honnef summarizes: 'Larry Weiner's exhibition was the fifth or sixth in the chronology, consisting only of a catalogue. Larry wanted us to give it away for free, but we objected to that. Was nichts kostet, ist nichts (what costs nothing, is nothing), as we say in the Rhineland. Visitors were only allowed to look through it.' Weiner's exhibition led to a hitherto unprecedented wave of resignations by outraged members from Gegenverkehr."Brigitte Jacobs van Renswou, "1968-1970: Gegenverkehr Zentrum für aktuelle Kunst," Sediment 30: Klaus Honnef, From Conceptual Art to Photography, (2019), p. 21. A signed copy, in near fine condition. We find just a handful of North American institutions holding this catalogue. ? D.
