Margaret Robertson, a transplanted New Englander, did not receive any formal schooling until she was sent, at the age of twelve, to boarding school and college near St. Louis, Missouri. The youngest child and only girl in her family, this was her very first contact with other girls. Her childhood had been about evenly split between books, long ramblings in the woods, and the care and riding of her horses. Her poetry was judged as unacceptably negative according to the mind set of her college's beliefs. She took a degree in geology and continued her drift westward. She wrote no poems, no prose for the ensuing forty-five years. Working in a variety of jobs, she ultimately found a niche dealing blackjack in Nevada casinos; magic in a deck of cards; a kaleidoscope of faces, a storehouse of memorable tales.Margaret did not begin to put poems to paper until 1990. She is nearing her seventy-second birthday.
