Soft cover. Condition: Near Fine. [8], 9p, [8] Original stiff wrappers from handmade fine paper. With a signed dedication to Judge Walter B. Beals on the inside front paper by President Calvin Coolidge, (1872-1933) 30th President of the United States. An additional signature by President Coolidge on the last text leaf. This speech was held at the Washington Auditorium in DC and it was a tribute to the many who served and sacrificed for their country in a time of war. The speech also addressed the tremendous cost of the war and people. University of Washington Library where Judge Beals collection and papers are kept, writes as follows: "Walter Burges Beals (1876-1960) had a distinguished career as an attorney, army officer, and judge, but he also become one of the most prominent private collectors of manuscripts and rare books in the Pacific Northwest. He practiced law in Seattle, served in the military during the First World War, and worked as a King County judge, a Washington State Supreme Court judge, and Chief Justice of the Court. Judge Beals was the Presiding Judge at the International Military Tribunal I held in Nuremberg from 1946-1947, at which Nazi doctors were tried. He retired in 1951". Nicely bound with handmade paper. Small tear at the inner margin of one blank leaf. Old handwritten label attached to the inside rear cover. Two small foxing spots on the front wrapper to the speech, otherwise internally clean. Probably a very limited production meant as gifts from President Coolidge. Inscribed by Author(s).
