Octavo (23.5cm); light grey paper-covered boards and black cloth backstrip, with titles stamped in copper on spine, and decorations embossed onto front cover; dustjacket; [vi],[2]-456,[2]pp. Inscribed by the author on the title page to New York bookseller Burt Britton: "To Burt Britton / Best ever…/ Don DeLillo." Fine in a very Near Fine dustjacket, unclipped (priced $19.95), with some gentle sunning to the orange panel on spine. Attractive copy of DeLillo's ninth novel, a finalist for the National Book Award for Fiction, in which he describes the life of Lee Harvey Oswald and his participation in a fictional CIA conspiracy to assassinate JFK. Britton (1933-2018) was a long-time fixture at The Strand and subsequently at Books and Co., beloved by the author's he befriended and whose works he promoted a real fixture in the New York book scene. He and DeLillo were friends with a shared interest: New York baseball. DeLillo inscriptions with any substantive connection seldom appear in the marketplace.
