Red marbled endpapers. Biographical introduction signed AW (Arthur Waugh, father of Evelyn). 39 illustrations by Phiz. Volume IV in The Biographical Edition of Dickens? works. Not dated. The 19 volumes of the Biographical Edition were published between 1903 and 1907, this one in 1906. CONDITION. Corners and edges somewhat scuffed but externally good for its age. Front hinge has a 1cm tear at its base; joints and hinges otherwise sound. There is a distinct crack between the first two gatherings, and some of the pages are creased at the top corner. The text block is otherwise tight and sound and the pages clean.

Contemporary dark green half calf, marbled boards, five raised bands, gilt on maroon lettering piece, gilt extra on the backstrip, marbled endpapers, all edges marbled, by Webb Hunt & Ridings of Liverpool. 1.5" split to the foot of the upper joint, slight rubbing to the head of the backstrip, fore-corners just peeping, five plates with light foxing otherwise a VG copy. Printed by Bradbury, Evans, and Co. Probably issued between 1861 and 1874. Not a tight back so the joint is readily repairable. We have a further seven Dickens titles bound by Webb Hunt & Ridings.

Spectacular marbled endpapers, and marbled page edges. xii, 499pp. With frontispiece engraving after painting by T. Webster, and 21 engravings in plates, many by Phiz. A Very Good copy. The covers are clean, very lightly rubbed to edges and marbling. Pages well-bound. No inscriptions. Main pages generally clean, but some of the plate pages are very heavily foxed as is often the case with Dicken's novels. Photos available.
