Scarce First Edition,First Printing of what some consider is Wister's true first novel with a somewhat western theme before the Virginian in 1902. Good copy. No jacket. In red cloth cover with bright gilt rising sun and lettering on front cover and faded gilt lettering on spine. Gray stained top edge. Clean, unmarked text pages. Intact binding although there is a cracked hinge at title page. Bumping and light fraying of ends of spine. Lower front cover corner is through. Spine is lightly cocked and darkened. Frontispiece by Frederick Remington is detached as is picture between pages 80 and 81.Previous owner's name on lower front free endpaper. Moderate shelf rubbing. Pictures upon request. Thank you for your patronage. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
