Erick Berry was the pen name of Evangel Allena Champlin Best (1892-1974), an American author, illustrator and editor. This is the second book of a trilogy designed to show the development of transportation in nineteenth-century America. It tells about the adventures of a young girl on the Erie Canal when it was an active waterway in the first part of the 19th century. The book is bound in the original brown cloth covered boards with black titling on the spine and front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with bumping to the spine ends and top front corner. The contents are tight and clean with a bump across the top corner of the first thirty or so pages. There is no inscription. The unclipped dustwrapper has shelf wear with some soiling and a small hole near the bottom front spine corner. The spine ends are bumped and chipped with small pieces missing from the spine corners and the top front corner is bumped. There is a tear of about 1 1/2" on the top front spine corner that has been repaired on the reverse with document repair tape and an unrepaired tear of about 3/4" on the top front corner. The wrapper is in an easily removed clear plastic protective cover.
