Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. NF, rebound by f/o Frank Michael Halpern (bp on pastedown and initials at bottom of spine), Lodore as part of original title does not appear on tp but is on spine leather strip, 244pps, small type size, she was also author of Frankenstein, no date on tp. Very clean copy, unable to de…termine if original or photocopy it's that good. ND on tp but 1835 known published date in UK. Along with his wife, books were his love. Professionally, in 1971, German-born Frank began working at the main branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia until he retired after more than 20 years. Most of his career was spent in the rare book department. Frank's hobby also involved books. He was widely known as a collector and dealers and other collectors alike sought his depth of knowledge. This was also evidenced by his authorship of 'Directory of Dealers in Science Fiction and Fantasy' published in 1975. Those who shared his passion enjoyed hours of rich discussion often enhanced by a good scotch. The novel's modern editor, Lisa Vargo, has noted the text's engagement with political and ideological issues, particularly the education and social role of women. She suggests that Lodore dissects a patriarchal culture that separated the sexes and pressured women into dependence on men. In the view of critic Betty T. Bennett, "the novel proposes egalitarian educational paradigms for women and men, which would bring social justice as well as the spiritual and intellectual means by which to meet the challenges life invariably brings". Rilegato. Condition: quasi ottimo. Dust Jacket Condition: quasi ottimo. prima edizione. PRIMA EDIZIONE. LEGATURA EDITORIALE CARTONATA BLU CON TITOLI IN ORO AL DORSO, SOVRACCOPERTA ILLUSTRATA CON DIPINTO A COLORI DI GIACOMO BALLA, VOLUME IN 8°, pp.(2)152(6catalogo editoriale). GAMBETTI/VEZZOSI, p. 78.
