This work is British fiction writer Patrick Doncaster's second novel and his first mystery fiction novel. His first novel was the notable war-time piece entitled The Devil Held The Aces. This particular work follows Joe Casey, a newspaper reporter who is thrown into a work of mystery and murderous intent as he strives to find a "human story" for his paper. Doncaster draws on his own experiences working as a professional journalist in Fleet Street. In a striking dust wrapper by artist Peter Rudland. In original publisher's red cloth binding and unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent, with minor shelf wear only. Light bumping to head and tail of spine and the occasional mark to boards. Slight spotting to endpapers. Dust wrapper in very good condition, with the odd chip to the extremities. Slight sunning and a few marks to the wrap, mainly to the rear and the reverse. Slight spotting to the reverse of the wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean with slight age toning and the odd mark, mainly to the first and last pages. Very Good Indeed.
