Hall was a longtime professor of English at Shorter College, Rome, Georgia. ; Dr. Thelma R. Hall and her husband Dr. Wilson Hall came to Shorter College in Rome, Georgia, in 1964. Thelma Hall was Professor of English and Chair of the Division of Humanities at Shorter at the time of her death on April 5, 2002. Her career at Shorter lasted almost forty years. Dr. Hall earned her B.A. and M.A. in English from Auburn University and her Ph.D. in English from the University of Alabama. A previous book of poetry, Sunlight and Stones, received the 1999 Benjamin Franklin Award for Poetry/Literary Criticism, given by the Publishers Marketing Association. Dr. Hall also had seventy-five poems published in various literary journals and other sources, including the following: The New Laurel Review, Poem, The Chattahoochee Review, Number One, The Reach of Song (yearbook of the Georgia Poetry Society), and many others.
