A short work, an admonishment to those who have let themselves appear seedy, either through folly or evil ways (and not old age or misfortune), which spells out both the negative influence and the troubles which this kind of appearance brings on others as well as on oneself. The author describes handful of persons, notes their demeaned state, and entertainingly hands out a fair bit of ridicule--word to the wise. Also, seedy homes makes seedy husbands! Philip Bennett Power (1822-1899) was born in Ireland and graduated from Trinity College, Dublin. He entered the ministry of the Church of England in 1846. He served congregations in Leicester, Holloway (London), and Worthing until 1865.
