Octavo, boards. First edition. 1300 copies printed of which this is one of 200 copies signed by Vance. Collects nine stories previously uncollected in book form, two revised for publication here, "first published between 1945 and 1974, and representative of the spread of Vance's career as a magazine SF writer. 'The World-Thinker,' here revised, is his earliest work, but delightful. The humorous 'Meet Miss Universe' (1955), about an interstellar beauty contest, is the story which inspired British author J. G. Ballard to begin his career in SF (compare the latter's 'Passport to Eternity,' written in 1955, published in 1962)" (Pringle, The Ultimate Guide to Science Fiction, second edition [1995], p. 217). A fine copy in fine dust jacket. (#168336). Signed.

Hard Cover. Condition: As New. Dust Jacket Condition: As New. Ned Dameron (illustrator). Limited. Still in original publisher's shrink-wrap. An unread copy of this scarce short-story collection, featuring some of Vance's least favorite fiction. This copy is from the collection of one of the partners in The Other Change of Hobbit -- the other partner supplied the setting copy for "Seven Exits from Bosc", a story which only appeared in a fanzine before this collection (and one of the scarcest of Vance's stories then!). Ah, the stories we could tell. The trade edition on this is uncommon, and the limited signed edition is scarce. Since we didn't open it, we can't tell you whether it's just one of the signed (200) copies or the "Presentation Copy" state (20 copies); not that it really matters. Signed by Author.
