Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine - Slight Chips. 1st US Edition. Nick Urfe, a young British schoolteacher, travels to the Greek island of Phraxos for a vacation. There he manages to wander into a series of misadventures and confusions that bring the stability of his world into doubt. A careless flirta…tion with another tourist leads to a messy affair, and a chance introduction brings him under the influence of an enigmatic, elderly recluse who stands at the center of an oddly sinister cult. The preface to this edition states : A number of scenes have been largely rewritten, and one or two new ones invented. These revisions serve to accelerate the pace of the alluring, uncanny events on the beautiful Aegean island of Phraxos, to accentuate the deviousness of the Magus, or magician, himself, Maurice Conchis, and to intensify the erotic elements of the book. 656p.

Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. Little, Brown and Company, Boston, 1978. First published in 1965 this is the first American edition of A Revised Edition. Per the author's blurb in the book "A number of scenes have been largely rewritten, and one or two new ones invented. These revisions serv…e to accelerate the pace of the alluring, uncanny events on the beautiful Aegean island of Phraxos, to accentuate the deviousness of the Magus, or magician, himself, Maurice Conchis, and to intensify the erotic elements of the book." This novel is a serious, saturnalian labyrinth of a book! Fowles (1926 2005) is considered to be one of the greatest British writers since 1945. He had a number of well known novels, many of which were made into movies, as was the Magus. His works include "The Collector", "The French Lieutenant's Woman" and "The Ebony Tower". This long book, 656 pages, is in fine condition as is the dust jacket that is now protected in a mylar wrap.
