The jacket is NOT price-clipped ($3.50) and has a couple of tiny tears and light rubbing. It looks very nice under the fresh mylar cover I've added. The book is a stated Twenty-first Printing and has some rubbing and wear on the spine ends and corners. There is some paper residue from what appears to be the removal of a bookplate on the front endpaper and a penciled price was erased. Still a very good copy with the hard-to-find Dennis signature. Two sheets or partial sheets of paper signed by Beatrice Lillie (Lady Peel in private life) are laid in. Lillie played the title role in the British production (1958-1959) after a four week engagement as Mame in the Broadway production that earned a rave review from Brooks Atkinson in the New York Times on June 8, 1858. Patrick Dennis's novel, Auntie Mame, on which the play is based, was a run away success, making records on the New York Times' best sellers list and selling more than 2 million copies during its initial publication. The first production of the play, at the Broadhurst Theatre, with Rosalind Russell and then Greer Garson in the title role, ran from October 1956 to June 1958, as well as a national tour, starring Constance Bennett, before transferring to London's Adelphi Theatre in September 1958. Warner Brothers released a film version, with Rosalind Russell as leading lady, in 1958; Russell won a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Auntie Mame.
