Some old damp-marking to r…ed boards, minor bumping to spine ends and corners of same, black ink stains to top edge of inner flap of dustwrapper and to top edges of first pages, original owner's name and date (1942) inside front board, otherwise a not too bad, tight copy of this hard-cover book. The author was quite a well-known writer of novels between the 1930s and 1950s. Deals with the author's childhood in Orkney, his service in WW1, Aberdeen university, travels in Persia, Russia, India and the US, up to the outbreak of WW2. 341pp. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
