Pp. 384; gilt lettered red cloth, fore-corners a trifle bruised, light faded patches at head and foot of spine (corresponding to pieces torn from dust wrapper); dust wrapper, worn and lightly soiled, the edges rubbed and split, with pieces torn from head and foot of backstrip, and a long closed diagonal tear across the back panel; the free endpapers faintly offset, hinges tender at a couple of points, a little light foxing; John Murray, London, 1937. First edition. *Presentation copy, with the author's armorial bookplate on the upper pastedown; the bookplate inscribed and signed by Wren in ink 'To Francis Patrick [Parkes] With love from his godfather'. Set in India, the characters include Major Bartholomew Hazelrigg, known to his friends as Ganesh, the Secret Service Agent who also featured in Beggars' Horses. Signed.
