Aloha Gary, "Be Positive!" W Amos 11-2-00. Thank You. Introduction. There are no Facts on the Future; No Matter Where You've Come From, You're Always Going Somewhere; Only Those Who See the Invisible Can do the Impossible; The Grass is Greenest Right Where You Are, If You Keep on Thinking What You've Always Thought, You'll Keep on Getting What You've Always Got; Failure is Someone Else's Opinion of the Outcome of a Situation; You Always Get as Many Second Chances as You Want; I Reached for the Sky But I Missed, So I Grabbed a Few Stars; Obstacles Are What You See When You Take Your Eyes Off Your Goal; The Truth Is Closer to the Gut Than to the Lips; You Can Call It Anything If You Think It Needs a Name; A Diamond Is Just a Piece of Coal Which Stuck to Its Cause; Power Is in Being, Not in Doing; If You Believe It, You Will Have It--Doubt Is Just Another Experience on the Path to Faith; Keep Your Eyes on Your Dreams; and The Proof of the Cookie Is All In the Eating. Includes Epilogue, as well as Uncle Nonames Hawaiian Lemonade Recipe. Wally Amos really knows how to turn lemons into lemonade, and can help you do the same. Things don't always work out exactly the way we want in life. Man with No Name is a must read if those occurrences ever happen in your life. Wallace "Wally" Amos, Jr. (born July 1, 1936) is an American TV personality, entrepreneur, and author from Tallahassee, Florida. He is the founder of the Famous Amos chocolate-chip cookie, the Cookie Kahuna, and Aunt Della's Cookies gourmet cookie brands, and he was the host of the adult reading program, Learn to Read. He showed his interest in cooking at a young age. It was from his aunt Della Bryant, who would bake cookies for him, that Amos later developed his chocolate chip cookie recipe. Amos improved on his aunt Della's recipe, which was already uncommon because it included several ingredients not generally associated with chocolate chip cookies. He got a job with the William Morris Agency. Eventually, he became the agency's first African American talent agent. He signed Simon & Garfunkel and headed the agency's rock 'n' roll department. Amos attracted clients by sending them chocolate chip cookies along with an invitation to visit him. He represented musicians such as Diana Ross & the Supremes, Sam Cooke, and Marvin Gaye. In 1975, a friend suggested to Amos that he set up a store to sell his cookies, and in March of that year, the first Famous Amos cookie store opened in Los Angeles, California. He started the business with the help of a $25,000 loan from Marvin Gaye and Helen Reddy. The company began to expand, and eventually, Famous Amos chocolate chip cookies could be found on supermarket shelves across the United States. He became such a known figure culturally that he appeared as himself in the Taxi episode "Latka's Cookies", in 1981. Thanks in part to the success of his cookie company, he was hired to deliver speeches. He has written 10 books, many of which have a self-help theme, including The Cookie Never Crumbles and The Power in You. Due to financial troubles, Amos was forced to sell the Famous Amos Company, and because the name "Famous Amos" was trademarked by his former company, he had to use The Uncle Noname's Cookie Company as his new company's name.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. First Edition. This regimental history has been expertly restored with a new spine (the old spine has been re-attached.) The end pages have been replaced and this has turned out to be a pretty nice copy. There is a bump along the bottom edge and foxing and some staining on some of the early pages. The following is taken from The Union Army: a history of military affairs in the loyal states, 1861-65 -- records of the regiments in the Union army -- cyclopedia of battles -- memoirs of commanders and soldiers. Madison, WI: Federal Pub. Co., 1908. volume II. One Hundred and Fourteenth Infantry. Cols., Elisha B. Smith, Samuel R. Per Lee; Lieut.-Cols., Samuel R. Per Lee, Henry B. Morse; Majors., Henry B. Morse, Oscar H. Curtiss. Seven companies of this regiment were recruited in Chenango County and three in Madison. They rendezvoused at Norwich, where the regiment was organized, and mustered into the U. S. service for three years, Sept. 3, 1862. Three days later it started for the front, moving to Binghamton by canal boats, and proceeding thence to Baltimore. In November it sailed for New Orleans as part of Banks' expedition, and on its arrival there was assigned to Weitzel's (2nd) brigade, Augur's (1st) division, 19th corps. It was stationed for a time at Brashear City and neighboring points, and was first engaged at Fort Bisland, where it had 11 men wounded, 3 mortally. It did not participate in the Bayou Teche campaign, but joined its corps before Port Hudson, May 30, 1863, where it was actively engaged for 40 days in the siege and suffered severely in the grand assault of June 14. The loss of the regiment during the siege was 73 in killed, wounded and missing. In March, 1864, in Dwight's (1st) brigade, Emory's (1st) division, 19th corps, it moved on Banks' Red River campaign, engaging at Sabine cross-roads, where Lieut.-Col. Morse, commanding the regiment, was wounded, at Pleasant Hill, Cane river crossing and Mansura. On July 15, it embarked for Washington, the corps having been ordered to Virginia. On its arrival, it marched through Maryland, and then joined in Sheridan's famous Shenandoah campaign against Early. The regiment fought with the utmost gallantry at the battle of the Opequan, where it was subjected to a murderous fire, losing 188 killed and wounded, or three-fifths of those engaged, and being complimented for gallantry by the division-general. It was present at Fisher's hill and Woodstock, and again showed its splendid fighting qualities at Cedar creek, with a loss of 21 killed, 86 wounded, and 8 missing. Col. Per Lee was among the wounded at the Opequan, and was promoted for gallantry to brevet brigadier-general. The regiment was mustered out, under Col. Per Lee, June 8, 1865, at Bladensburgh, Md. Its total enrollment during service was 1,134, of whom 9 officers and 114 men were killed and mortally wounded; 2 officers and 192 men died of disease and other causes; total deaths 317. Its loss in killed and wounded was 422, or 10.6 per cent. Its proud record entitles it to rank among the three hundred fighting regiments of the war. Professionally repaired with new spine with the original laid over and new end pages. Inscribed to J. L. B. " With the regards of E. P. Pellet, June 22, 1866." Tipped in are two photographs, one presumably (possibly) that of the person to who Pellet was inscribing the book and the other is of Brevet-Major Pellet in his uniform. Inscribed copies are rare. T. A clean hardback copy of the trade edition, which has been inscribed by Stirling Moss (a limited edition of this work exists, which is signed by both co-authors). There is a crease to the 2 top outer corners, which runs through the whole volume and affects the top outer corners of the leaves. There is also a crease at the tail of the spine, and a small nick to the left-hand edge of the lower cover, about an inch from the bottom of the board. There is also a bit of foxing on the top edge. The black boards are clean and crisp, the hinges are sound and secure and the contents are clean. The pictorial dust jacket is clean and has not been price-clipped, but it has a couple of small injuries on the left-hand edge of the lower cover, and is a little creased in the 2 top outer corners.
